Mountain Living
All trips are guided and outfitted with private tents for guests and home cooking, campfire style. Our camp sites are selected with minimum impact to the land in mind as well as good grass for the horses and magnificent views for our campers. We prefer groups of six or less and private-custom trips are welcome. For larger private groups, we can certainly accommodate this into a special custom trip. Guests should be physically fit to be prepared for rugged off trail riding at times.
All days offer a full day of horseback riding. Mornings start with a hardy leisure breakfast with cowboy coffee. Help us gather and saddle horses or spend some time behind the spotting scope, searching for wildlife on the mountain sides. Plan on a fun day of riding with the best scenery and wildlife viewing in mind along with thrilling off trail riding on our seasoned Alaskan mountain horses. And the wildflowers, wow!
Back at camp, relaxing in a camp chair and worn out after an unbelievable great day of mountain riding, plan on a big warm campfire and a hardy meal. A full evening of watching for wildlife and the sunset on the mountains (if you are up that late). You can watch the horses feed on good grass with your private tent in the distance, and listen for the sounds and such quietness of the wilderness.
Most trips are hosted and guided by Alex Kime. Resurrection Trail, a historical trail from Cooper Landing to Hope, is used to access remote mountain valleys that were used by trappers, hunters and gold miners in the pioneer days. Their old trails are utilized as well as campsites. Our camp sites vary often as to allow minimum impact to areas. Wildlife viewing can be excellent or not so hot. We do our best to help you spot wildlife, many of which may be wolves, caribou, moose, brown bear, black bear, sheep, goat, coyote, wolverine, and bird viewing for eagles, hawks, owls, spruce hen and our state bird the ptarmigan. Fishing availability may be an option on custom tripS, just ask. Chugach National Forest trips are normally limited to 6 guests. Private and larger groups available.

An Early Bird Value!
This remote adventure takes us deep into the refuge along the base of the Kenai Mountains. Imagine it is spring, the leaves are freshly budding out, it’s now time for moose to calve and our birds are arriving home from the South. Our high mountain trails are still drying out, so this low land trip along an old forest service road allows us to experience the back country right after the snow melt. We’re always looking for wildlife as well as watching for tracks and antler sheds. We camp in remote areas where natives explored over 8,000 years ago. This is an easy going trip, one of our more gentler adventures. It’s quiet, no motorized vehicles or bicycles are allowed in the refuge. We rarely see another person. Weather can be very pleasant or it can be “we bring a wall tent and wood stove” weather! (A custom trip with two more days can be arranged. We would continue our trek all the way to Cook Inlet where we could camp and spend the day exploring. A rare adventure with over 80 miles of riding.)
Kenai National Wildlife Refuge

Rugged old packing trail and high country views make this an exciting trip into the high mountain valleys of the refuge. We ride on top of a mountain on day two as well as explore remote mountain valleys. We should spot black bear, eagles, Alaskan birds and moose on this one. Our camp offers a good spot to roam around and take in the views, as well as short hikes after dinner. Lots of daylight on this trip!
EXTREME WILDERNESS EXPEDITION
Kenai National Wildlife Refuge
June 25 through June 31.

We venture deep into the valleys of the Chugach Mountains and to the headwaters of the Funny River and Bear Creek. This trek takes us over 30 miles back into the homeland of the Killey River Caribou herd. Truly a wilderness experience that ranks amongst the finest in the world. This is an adventure that includes many action packed days of wilderness riding and searching for wildlife. No groomed trails and rarely do we encounter humans. After two days of riding we arrive at our base camp which will be our home for the next four days. Each day will be a phenomenal day of riding and adventure. The 7th day we ride to the lake where you are picked up by a float plane for your return to our ranch. This rare offering is a very special area to your guide, Alex Kime and his daughter Gretchen. They have been exploring this extreme wilderness country for over 25 years. Call or email for details. Chugach National Forest

Resurrection Trail and Devil’s Pass Trail gets us into a remote mountain valley in the Kenai Mountains. Lots of riding choices for adventure exploring the high country. There’s a good chance of seeing caribou, eagles, moose, and we most always see a brown bear. This trip offers spectacular views and mountain settings. You are looking at about 5-6 hours in the saddle each day. Day two is mostly off trail riding, taking in exciting spots and exploring mountain valleys. A fine Alaska wilderness adventure.
Remote and Rugged, Chugach National Forest

A seven hour (or so) ride of action packed views gets us to one of our most remote camps. We have two exciting day trips from camp that almost always produces wildlife. This trip offers some of our most exciting off trail riding and unbelievable beautiful spots deep in the mountains. Wild flowers galore! Truly our most favorite adventure in the National Forest.
Custom Extreme Photography Seven-Day Pack Trip
Available in September in the remote Kenai National Wildlife Refuge for guided and outfitted photography trips for caribou and moose in mating season. This is in some of the most magnificent wilderness county in the world with phenomenal photography opportunities. A custom built and private opportunity.
Pack Trip General Information
All guests taking pack trips should arrive at our lodge on the day before their trip is scheduled to depart. This allows us time to do necessary organizing and pre-packing to ensure an early start. Guests should be in good physical condition please, with height and weight proportionate. Minimum age for pack trips should be 12 years old. Exceptions may be made. A detailed equipment list will be sent to you upon booking a trip.
